My Services

Technical & Prose-Related Editing

Copyediting

$150 per 80,000 words

Copyediting is the most basic kind of editing a story needs. It’s Step 1 in your journey because it ensures the writing is, at the very least, grammatically correct. Mainly, I follow the Chicago Manual of Style.

What's included:

  • COMMAS!

  • No, really—most of this work ends up being fixing people’s commas.

  • Spelling errors & word repetition

  • Grammar and punctuation

  • Subject-verb agreement

  • Sentence Structure (if necessary)

  • Tenses

  • Syntax

Line Editing

$250 per 80,000 words

Includes copyediting, plus…

I focus on the readability of the writing, cleaning up sentences for clarity and flow. I look at the reading experience instead of just making sure the sentences are grammatically correct. Basically, I give you feedback on your prose and how your sentences read. This work is more involved and time consuming than strict copyediting. Basically, I want to make your writing better & stronger.

What's included:

  • Run-on sentences

  • Wordy sentences

  • Show vs tell

  • Clarity & flow

  • Redundant words

  • Tightening and improving the prose

  • Diction (word choice)

  • Tone

  • POV shifts & head hopping

  • Reading experience

Show vs Tell Add-On

$75 per 80,000 words

Maybe you don’t want full line editing, but you are interested in learning where you could show more and tell less. You don’t want me to get too involved in the sentence structures too much, but just point out the moments where you need show vs tell. Then, this add-on is perfect for you.

Show vs tell feedback is included in Line Editing.

Story-Related Editing

Developmental Edit

$400 per 80,000 words

This edit focuses on the narrative elements of the story. I look at the Big Idea and the genre-specific aspects of the novel. In a romance novel, for instance, I will give you feedback on the development of the romantic arc and its emotional impact. You may also request the specific types of feedback you’re looking for.

Also, I will help you identify which plotting system fits your story best. Then we follow it together and see if you’re hitting plot points and beats effectively enough. Plotting systems include: the Three Act Structure; 5 Act Structure, 7 Point Structure, Fihctean Curve, Hero’s Journey, and more. Yes, I also work on character-driven stories.

What's included:

  • Narrative structure—is there a hook, rising action, climax, resolution

  • Plot holes & inconsistencies

  • Character development & arcs

  • World building elements—where can you add more, and what types?

  • Pacing and beats

  • Relationship development (romance)

  • Beginning, middle, and end

  • Your first five pages/your opening/your HOOK

  • Ending payoff & satisfaction

  • More/whatever’s applicable.

Beta Read

$150 per 80,000 words

As a beta reader, I’ll act as a stand-in for your novel’s audience. I will give you my first-impression on the novel based on engagement, plot, characters, story, and more. I will share my feelings about the novel—things I love and things that could be improved in order to provide a great reading experience. Besides my general impressions, below are some types of feedback you may receive from a beta read.

The distinction between this and a developmental edit is that, with beta reading, I will simply point out my impressions of my reading experience; I won’t work on providing suggestions or potential solutions with my feedback. Also, I don’t go into the narrative elements as deeply. I am a stand-in reader and I will provide my feedback on the novel’s payoff and reading experience.

Think of it as: these are the kinds of things a reader would be noticing, and which would affect their review and star rating!

What's included:

  • Plot & pacing: Are there plot holes? Are there plot threads that don’t make sense or is there information missing? Does the pacing hold the reader’s attention? Are some story-elements over-done or cliche? Do the surprises and twists hit, or was the story predictable? How well do scenes flow into one another? Feedback on beginning, middle, and end.

  • Characters: Can the reader connect with the characters? Are the character arcs satisfying?

  • Narrative elements: Does the theme play out well? Is the story engaging? Is the atmosphere good? Is the genre approached in a fresh way, or is the story stale?

Combos & Custom Edits

  • Is your manuscript more than 80,000 words? We can discuss a price based on your word count.

  • Want to mix and match services? Let’s talk about it.

  • BUT if you want, for example, everything in the Line Editing package except one thing, no, it is not cheaper just because POV shifts aren’t included.

  • No, I do not offer proofreading, which is a final look before formatting.

FAQs

What genres do you read?

My preferred genres are romance and contemporary fiction. I specialize in kink-friendly romances, Male/Male pairings, and I am fine with erotica and spicy scenes.

I take sci-fi and fantasy on a case-by-case basis and depending on the length (and time in my schedule).

I will let you know if I lack the knowledge about a particular genre to be able to provide my story developmental editing (ex: Christian romance, historical romance…). However, I may still be able to provide spelling and grammar work in such cases.

Do you read open-door scenes?

Absolutely! I have no preference on whether or not the romance is open or closed door.

Do you only read heterosexual romance?

Nope! I read all pairings, whether het or queer, and I have a preference for male/male romances.

How fast is the turnaround for each service?

This really depends on each story. Not only is the word count a factor, but sometimes the writing style makes my work go either faster or slower. After a consultation, I will give you a rough turnaround time that allows for +/- 2 days.

Do you use AI to edit?

Never.
